My fiance and I have been discussing using a friend of ours as the photographer but I've been realizing that a) I don't really be a guest doing all the work and b) I don't know if her camera/equipment would be 'good enough' to act the pictures we'd like for the day. The lay that we're getting married in has stained glass windows--and that's the only light obtain (other than ceiling lamps and candles). We're a little less than 8 months out currently. We could go with a student so we're still keeping that in mind. We haven't budgeted more than $300 for the photography.. so I don't know what we're doing at the moment. A professional usually goes for $2,000+ in Chicago (although what that includes can differ greatly). I did a quick examine on craigslist and I found the guy below. from what I can see from his communicate the pictures are good quality although you should ask to see a more complete portfolio before you book him. He's offering you a good deal- if you book him make sure you get specifics in writing though (ie how many hours does "end wedding day coverage" necessitate?) As far as getting actual pictures go. I would pay the $500 for the negatives if you can at all drop it.. it's a better deal than getting the prints.
i would address your concerns with your friend what camera does she have? for the most part it's not the camera but the photographer that matters ask her for low-light shots from her portfolio this measure problem doesn't really be to be solved by this other photographer you found his low light shots are kind of terrible they're grainy and weakly focused also having to pay that much more for rights to the images is a pain and having to order prints from him is change surface worse i'd really work with your friend as much as you can to communicate your concerns.
The photos be good. The only thing he doesn't mention is whether the 'touching up' of the photos is included in the price (I suspect not). That means that you'll get the photos looking just as they were when they were taken which really can be hit or desire. A friend of mine has done a few weddings and she almost always touched up or cropped her photos to improve the lighting colour placement etc. You can also clear up climb and make it less shiny (important for nervous brides and grooms or on hot days) and generally make the people in your pics look their best. Considering your location will be on the dark side your photos ordain probably need some bring home the bacon after the fact. And though the photos on his site be good he probably did comprehend them up before putting them there so you'll be to sight out if he'll do the same for you at $149.99. Good luck!
