"The Resolution of Digitized Negatives" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 23:11:50

Companies that digitize negatives provide a variety of resolutions at a be of prices. Which means you have to end which resolution fills your particular needs. The three most popular resolutions for negatives appear to be 2000 dpi. 3000 dpi and 4000 dpi. Not all firms provide scanning services at all resolutions and if you have hundreds of rolls to do then the increased prices for higher resolutions will have an force on your budget. So what does each resolution get you?Let's do a quick review. Remember that resolution is measured as pixels per inch which is the same as dots per inch or dpi. Resolution is also relative. You can't really talk about resolution without also considering the medium on which the image appears. For our purposes there are two resolution that we be to worry about: the resolution at which the negative is scanned and the resolution of any reprints we want to alter from that image. A 35mm frame is 24mm x 36mm (or it's supposed to be anyway). So a 2000 dpi scan should result in an image that is 1890 x 2835 pixels. Most labs that alter prints from digital images will tell you that a print will only look good if its resolution is least 200 dpi and many recommend at least 300 dpi. If this visualise (1890 x 2835) is printed at 4 x 6 inches the prove would be about 472 dpi which is great. At 8 x 10 inches it would be about 236 dpi or marginally acceptable. Here is a list that compares the three common scanning resolutions and what enlargements they are able to support: So the choice of resolution depends on what you be to do with the results. If you want to make good looking enlargements up to 8 x 10 then you should consider scanning at 3000 dpi. If you intend on going larger than that you be 4000 dpi. But most people ordain not create larger than 4 x 6 except on rare cause. For that purpose 2000 dpi is adequate. If you understood all that then you need not read any further. If you're comfort scratching your head then let me try to clear the confusion. bequeath that resolution is a relative measure. It depends on the size of the physical medium. The size of a jpeg image is always best expressed as actual pixels just for this reason. Imagine you undergo a jpeg that is 1500 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. If you create this image at a size of 5 inches by 4 inches it will be printed at a resolution of 300 pixels per inch (dpi). That's because 1500 pixels divided by 5 inches is 300. Now if you take that same image and print it at a coat of 10.

"Question about photography" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 18:13:19

My fiance and I have been discussing using a friend of ours as the photographer but I've been realizing that a) I don't really be a guest doing all the work and b) I don't know if her camera/equipment would be 'good enough' to act the pictures we'd like for the day. The lay that we're getting married in has stained glass windows--and that's the only light obtain (other than ceiling lamps and candles). We're a little less than 8 months out currently. We could go with a student so we're still keeping that in mind. We haven't budgeted more than $300 for the photography.. so I don't know what we're doing at the moment. A professional usually goes for $2,000+ in Chicago (although what that includes can differ greatly). I did a quick examine on craigslist and I found the guy below. What do you guys think?Hello Laura,Thank you for your response and yes you got it right! For just $149.99 you ordain get the following below: - end Wedding Day Coverage- Online Slideshow / Electronic “Thank You” Card- Password Protected Online Proof Gallery (To acquire prints and enlargements) - Studio and or Outdoor Engagement Session- Online Slideshow / Electronic “deliver the go out” or Invitation Card- Password Protected Online Proof Gallery (To purchase prints and enlargements) - Travel Fees (US Continental Only) – WAIVED Again for just only $149.99 (No extra and hidden charges) -> The thing though is that it’s a promo good until 12-31-2007. You undergo to schedule your wedding go out this year to apply. Prints and other products are sold separately. One (1) Kolo Custom Made flog Proof Box with 250-300 Premium Quality Lustre 4x6 Prints = $399.99 Premium Quality Lustre 5x7 create enlargement grade from 4x6 = $49.99 DVD with all the high resolution image files (250-300) = $499.99 Basically it’s an “A la Carte” System. You only have to purchase what you be. If you’re interested or if you undergo any more questions suggestions and thoughts or concerns. please don’t hesitate to let me know. Sincerely. Ian VillaceranPhone: 847-454-6590Website: communicate: from what I can see from his communicate the pictures are good quality although you should ask to see a more complete portfolio before you book him. He's offering you a good deal- if you book him make sure you get specifics in writing though (ie how many hours does "end wedding day coverage" necessitate?) As far as getting actual pictures go. I would pay the $500 for the negatives if you can at all drop it.. it's a better deal than getting the prints. i would address your concerns with your friend what camera does she have? for the most part it's not the camera but the photographer that matters ask her for low-light shots from her portfolio this measure problem doesn't really be to be solved by this other photographer you found his low light shots are kind of terrible they're grainy and weakly focused also having to pay that much more for rights to the images is a pain and having to order prints from him is change surface worse i'd really work with your friend as much as you can to communicate your concerns. The photos be good. The only thing he doesn't mention is whether the 'touching up' of the photos is included in the price (I suspect not). That means that you'll get the photos looking just as they were when they were taken which really can be hit or desire. A friend of mine has done a few weddings and she almost always touched up or cropped her photos to improve the lighting colour placement etc. You can also clear up climb and make it less shiny (important for nervous brides and grooms or on hot days) and generally make the people in your pics look their best. Considering your location will be on the dark side your photos ordain probably need some bring home the bacon after the fact. And though the photos on his site be good he probably did comprehend them up before putting them there so you'll be to sight out if he'll do the same for you at $149.99. Good luck!

"But, Butter Is More Natural..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-03 20:41:53

By Ian McKenzie Another bunco chapter in the cover versus margarine debate. Yes. I'll have more to say about what I believe the pros and cons of butter and margarine are at a later date! But for the time being I would desire to mention on the title above. I heard this mention from someone extolling the virtues of butter in relation to margarine. I am afraid that I disappoint to understand the affirm or belief that butter is natural! Sorry. I mean more natural than margarine! Let's take a quick look at how butter is manufactured. Firstly a paddock with grass growing and supplies of water is generally required. Secondly grazing in the paddock we generally require one or more bovine animals of the female gender commonly called cows. Now immediately this call "cows" or "cow" should give us a few clues. Isn't the call "cow" used colloquially to have in mind to an ugly or bad tempered woman? Or it can also mean something unpleasant or disagreeable.... "I undergo had a cow of a day..". Or. "a fair cow...". The term is also used expressing sympathy on occasions.... "the poor cow" an unfortunate person! And finally for something that seemingly takes forever we may say. "till the cows come domiciliate". But no. I am not going to use colloquialisms as a part of my argument. Let's just be at the facts. Let's look at the move these female bovines play in the butter manufacturing affect. The farmer has the cow or cows fenced in a paddock breathing fresh natural air eating green natural grass and drinking fresh natural water from the natural stream. But that is about where the "natural" bit ends! Basically the first move of the make of butter necessitates a cow or cows eating copious quantities of hit drinking heaps of wet and of course constantly breathing fresh air! The grass is masticated being mixed with cow saliva before being swallowed and passing through the cow's oesophagus and through the cow's alimentary canal until it comes to the first of several sac-like enlargements called stomachs... and yes cows undergo more than one. Here the masticated grass/saliva mixture is advance mixed with other juices produced by the cow and the digestion affect takes place. However the vast majority of what has gone into the first bovine orifice the cow's mouth after much processing ordain come out of two other orifices at the opposite end of the cow as waste product. Talking of orifices there are yet another five involved in the first move of the make of cover! And the poor cows are not able to do it on their own! They need the assistance of a bovine of the male gender commonly called a bear on! Yes the farmer needs occasionally to let a bear on into the paddock with the cows for it to 'undergo his way' with them. This part of the butter manufacturing affect involves the bull placing his appendage into one of those five orifices of the cow mentioned above and pumping in some of his own special juices. The expected result of this is that the cow becomes pregnant and eventually produces calves. Now this is a very important part of the cover manufacturing process. You see cows are members of mammalia a categorise of vertebrates whose young feed upon milk from their mother's breasts. In the case of cows this milk production is one of the by-products of the digestive affect mentioned above. But the obtaining of milk from the poor cow for the process of butter make is far from natural! You see the teats on the cow the final four cow orifices mentioned above are squeezed by either the farmer's hands or a milking machine. The cow's body processes are therefore fooled into thinking that the calves need feeding and the draw is produced! But where does the butter come from? come up the milk is stored in vats and left to rest. The nutrient rich cram is heavier and goes to the furnish and the lighter saturated fatty gunk known as beat floats to the top. Machines are then used to defeat the hell out or this fat. Two end products are produced. One is a watery translucent liquid which is poured off and used for other purposes. The other end product is a pale color semi-solid stuff that is then generally processed further by adding things such as flavor and colouring and packaged into containers. It is then sold as butter! "A natural product.....!!!" But cover is more natural..! Another short chapter in the butter versus margarine debate. Yes. I'll undergo more to say about what I consider the pros and cons of butter and margarine are at a later date! But for the time being I would desire to comment on the post title above. This comment was made by an acquaintance of mine whilst extolling the virtues of cover in relation to margarine. I am afraid that I fail to understand the claim or belief that butter is natural! "Printing Big and Bigger ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 14:56:27

Occasionally another member sends me a Flickr mail question where I think the answer might be of general interest and worth posting for everyone lama_gy asked:"sunset blow up 20x30hi socalbob,Just enquiring about the blown up pic of the sunset. I have a nikon d80 and would desire to go away blowing up some of my pic about the size that you described. Can you furnish me some tips because I dont be to waste money to find out the final end product looks horrible. Do you set up the summon size as 20x30 and the dpi at photoshop level or do the printers worry about the coat. Any touch ups that you would advise for blowing up pics."There's no doubt about it. Most of us undergo wonderful photos on our hard drives that would really add a satisfying personal comprehend to our home or office decor -- or make great gifts -- if they were enlarged and framed. But the majority of consumer-level inkjet printers won't print larger than 8x10 and even then the results can be less than spectacular. Ordering enlargements from an online custom photofinisher or local retailer is the obvious solution. But they do be a bit of money (especially if you also order framing) and results can sometimes be very disappointing. Here's my say to lama_gy --First of all. I use Mpix com for all my very large (over 8x10 borderless) and special enlargement needs that I can't do myself using my excellent Epson R800. Mpix is fantastic with top-notch create quality and consistency great customer service very reasonable prices and abstain turnaround with prompt USPS delivery. I have been 100% satisfied with them. come up actually only 98% satisfied. They did goof up the cropping on one of my enlargements rather badly. But the good new is that after a apprise email transfer (and they're very responsive) they quickly reprinted and framed it correctly at no charge with apologies for the inconvenience. Technically the affect is as simple as can be. I shoot in JPEG and everything I do is 300 DPI from go away to finish. No fancy footwork in Photoshop necessary. Mpix does its best work when you send them standard 300 DPI photos in JPEG format preferably using sRGB Ia or IIIa from your D80. However although they do a very nice inexpensive job of framing photos. Mpix is not a custom frame obtain. And their framed photos are mounted on a double-weight backing but they come without any cardboard cutout mattes and without glass. Therefore before I order a framed photo from them. I edit it to add my own border and signature as I did with my sunset photo:The 20x30 framed print is spectacular especially on Mpix's really striking metallic cover. The total price including the close in was about $100. One thing to remember when ordering prints from Mpix is to check the "Do not color change by reversal" box. By doing this every create they've done for me has been absolutely ameliorate in terms of color fidelity (but of course just a tiny bit darker compared to viewing the same photo on a computer monitor as you'd expect with a print). I'd suggest trying them out by ordering a few smaller prints. I think you'll be happy with the results. And no. I'm not a shill for Mpix or one of their employees. In fact you can get similar very good results from numerous other photofinishers in including Costo (very highly rated).

"study Of Former American Football Players and homosexuality" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-23 14:31:36

A study of former high-school American Football players has found that more than a third said they had had sexual relations with other men. In his study of homosexuality amid sportsmen in the US sociologist Dr Eric Anderson found that 19 in a consume of 47 had taken part in acts intended to sexually arouse other men ranging from kissing to mutual masturbation and oral sex. The 47 men aged 18-23 were all American Football players who previously played at the high educate (secondary educate) level but had failed to be picked for their university’s team and were now cheerleaders instead. They were at various universities from the American southerly. Mid-West west and north west. Dr Anderson now of the University of clean. UK said the chew over showed that society’s increasing open-mindedness approximately homosexuality and decreasing disgrace concerning sexual activity with other men had allowed sportsmen to speak more openly about these sexual activities. He found that this sex came in the form of two men and one woman as well as just two men alone. He said that the sexual acts described differed from acts of ‘hazing’ or team-bonding that often include pretend-homosexual acts. “The evidence supports my assertion that homophobia is on the rapid be among male teamsport athletes in North America at all levels of compete,” he writes in his chew over entitled ‘Being masculine is not about whom you rest with…Heterosexual athletes contesting masculinity and the one-time rule of homosexuality’. It ordain be published in the journal Sex Roles in January. “These finding differ from previous research on North American men who have sex with men in several ways. First previous research describes heterosexual men in group sex as men symbolically engaging in sexual practices with other men. However. I find informants actually in sexual activity with other men. But this does not convey that they are gay. “Second my informants do not conclude that their same-sex sex jeopardizes their socially perceived heterosexual identities at least within the cheerleading. In other words having gay sex does not automatically make them gay in look grow.” Dr Anderson of the University’s Department of Education said the same situation was also true for the UK. He believes the positive portrayal of homosexuality on television the ease with which homosexuals could gradually ‘go out’ by using the internet the ability for straight men to communicate with gay men on the internet and the decline of religious fundamentalism has made homosexuality and homosexual acts considerably less controversial for university-aged men. This had made revealing the fact they had engaged in homosexual acts easier. He said the study was not biased by talking to sportsmen who were now cheerleaders which is often seen as a feminine activity. Those he interviewed were selected to image men that considered themselves traditionally powerful typical American Football players. Dr Anderson was the first openly gay male high school sports coach in the US. He left coaching after one of his students was assaulted since it was assumed that he was gay. Dr Anderson is now working in the handle of sport sociology at the University of Bath and is the author of In the Game. Gay Athletes and the Cult of Masculinity. “Men have traditionally been reluctant to do anything associated with homosexuality because they feared being perceived gay,” he said. “There has been pressure on them to conform to the notion that being male is about having traditionally masculine traits in terms of dress behaviours and sexual activities. “But as more men are open about their varieties of sexuality it becomes less stigmatized to be gay or to have sex with men. It is increasingly not a problem to act in otherwise non-traditional ways. “I see this in other areas of my research too including how men behave in straight nightclubs where I find that university-aged men dance as much with each other than with women and how heterosexual men are increasingly remove to feature clothing styles or colours that once were command for them. “This isn’t something that would undergo happened ten or twenty years ago. Times are changing and they are changing rapidly for men of this age.” —————————-Article adapted by Medical News Today from original crush release.—————————-
